Steps to bring bogus surgeon Matteo Politi back to Romania from Italy

The Romanian authorities are working on taking back in custody fake Italian surgeon Matteo Politi, wanted internationally for several counts of fraud and who was caught in Italy following the cooperation between the Romanian Police and the authorities in the peninsula, judicial sources said.

Politi must serve a sentence of 3 years and 10 months in prison for several crimes of fraud, but also for mediated instigation of forgery and enabling document forgery.

The Romanian Police General Inspectorate (IGPR) said in release on Friday that on March 15, 2023, the Bucharest Sector 1 Court issued a prison sentence against the conman.

Politi was arrested in Italy, and the handover procedure to the Romanian authorities will carry through, the IGPR informed.

The Italian worked as a plastic surgeon for five clinics in Romania without having the right to practice. He had also been assigned a GMP identification number by the Public Health Directorate of the Bucharest Municipality.

Using a false name, he lied about his qualification as a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery and as a doctor with the right to practice in Romania. In 2018 Politi obtained from patients approximately 13,880 RON and 10,150 euros.

According to the prosecutors, posing under a false name, the Italian also deceived two doctors into believing that he would soon become the owner of a private clinic based in Bucharest, although he was aware there was no real possibility for him to make the purchase in that term, because he lacked the necessary financial resources.
