PM Ciolacu: The EC President reconfirmed to me his total support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area
President of the European Council Charles Michel reconfirmed his support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area at a meeting on Friday in Brussels with Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu .
The two officials met around 10:30hrs, being the first important moment in a series of activities that Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu was carrying out in Brussels.
„The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, reconfirmed to me today his full support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area. He is one of our country’s great friends and I thanked him for his constant, firm and energetic support. I agreed that a legitimate decision favouring Romania is the best antidote to de-tension the current accumulation of factors that could advance Euroscepticism in the eastern part of the continent. President Charles Michel also thanked Romania for its strong support to Ukraine and Moldova. It is proof that Romanians prove with deeds what solidarity means! Therefore, I hope that Europe will also prove, through a decision in favour of Romania on the subject of Schengen, that European solidarity also exists in reality, not only in official declarations,” said Ciolacu.
Ciolacu was also scheduled to also meet President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen and President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.
